Walks

We offer a variety of walks depending on the level of ability of our guests.

We want to give you as much choice as possible so we include walks ranging from a short 1 hour ramble to more challenging all day hikes. It is our guests’ decision whether they want to do several short walks in a day or just one long one and whether they want to walk every day or not.

The walks are all based in the area surrounding St Llorenc de la Muga and the nearby villages, the foothills of the Pyrenees. We walk through woods of cork oaks, along rivers and streams and up to remote chapels and churches. There are strawberry, fig and walnut trees as well as many wildflowers including orchids, irises and wild daffodils.

We can stop along the way for you to photograph the beautiful scenery and with luck you will also catch sight of the local wildlife.

With most of the walks a lunch in a local restaurant is included, if the walk can not include a restaurant a packed lunch will be provided.

We feel that most of the shorter walks are suitable for children from about 5 years of age.

In our opinion the longer and more difficult walks are not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Below are some examples of a few of our walks and you will find many more listed in your villa so you can decide on where you want to go once you are here.

Chris or Lara will be available for any questions you might have and help you decided which walks are best suited to you and your companions.

The Tower

1 – 1.5 hours

Easy walk, but the first part is quite steep. We have a key to the tower so you can climb to the top and enjoy the views of St Llorenc de la Muga.

Santa Magdalana

2 – 3 hours to the chapel from St Llorenc

Not a difficult walk but does involve some scrambling, the undergrowth is a little scratchy in places so long trousers may be a good idea! Walk along the top of a ridge and enjoy the fabulous views. In the spring there are lots of wildflowers including loads of irises. Once at the chapel you can take a look inside and ring the bell.

Bassegoda

All Day

A more challenging all day walk to our highest local peak ending in a steep ascent with the help of a chain. Beautiful views and a good chance to spot birds of prey.
